10 Biblical Truths for Earth Day

As you make all your blue and green crafts, take your nature hikes, and pitch in to protect our planet, don’t forget these important Biblical Truths.

Keeping God at the Centre of Earth Day

On April 22, 2024, it will be the 55th anniversary of Earth Day. This annual event is recognized globally to demonstrate support for environmental protection. As a nature-loving family, this is the kind of cause that sparks our passion. At the surface I’m sure humans world-wide can agree that we need to take measures to protect this planet we call home. But in brainstorming some activities for my kids and classes, I quickly came to see that much of the Earth Day resources available have secular roots and fail recognize God as Creator and Sustainer of all life.

As you make all your blue and green crafts, and take your nature hikes, and pitch in to protect our planet, don’t forget these important Biblical Truths.

  • God is Creator. “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” Genesis 1:1
  • The earth belongs to God. “The earth is the Lord’s and the fulness thereof.” Psalm 24:1
  • Creation testifies of the Creator. “The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of His hands.” Psalm 19:1
  • God loves and cares for all creation. “Look at the birds of the air; they don not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?” Matthew 6:26
  • God calls us to steward the earth. “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it.” Genesis 1:28
  • God’s is redeeming and restoring all creation. “Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.” Matthew 6:10
  • God is the source of abundant life. “I have come that you might have life, and life more abundantly.” John 10:10
  • God blesses the work of our hands. “ The Lord will bless your grain crops and the food you prepare from them. The Lord will bless everything you do.” Deuteronomy 28:5,6
  • The Lord commands time to rest and replenish. “But the seventh year will be a year of rest for the land, a year of rest to the Lord.” Leviticus 25:4
  • We await with expectation the restoration of all things in a new earth. “But we are looking forward to the new heavens and new earth He has promised, a world filled with God’s righteousness.” 2 Peter 3:13

This Earth Day, let’s remember that it is GOD that has the whole world in His hands. And that He so LOVED the whole world that He gave His one and only Son. We can do our part to save the planet, while pointing people to the true SAVIOR of the world!
