Last-Minute Craft Ideas for the 4th of July!

Calling all crafty families! Don’t get left scrambling for activities and decor this Fourth of July! The following list of Independence Day crafts will have you ready for the holiday before you know it!

1. Patriotic Paper Fans

Stay cool during the hot summer days with paper fans.

  • Red, white, and blue construction paper
  • Scissors
  • Glue or tape
  • Popsicle sticks

Instructions:

  1. Cut the construction paper into strips about 2 inches wide.
  2. Accordion-fold each strip back and forth.
  3. Glue or tape the ends of the strips together to form a circle.
  4. Attach a popsicle stick to the back for a handle.
  5. Fan yourself in style and stay cool during those outdoor festivities!

2. Star-Spangled Banner Bunting

Gather the following for beautiful, easy patriotic bunting:

  • Red, white, and blue felt or construction paper
  • String or ribbon
  • Scissors
  • Glue

Instructions:

  1. Cut out star shapes from the felt or paper. You can use a star-shaped cookie cutter as a template.
  2. Cut triangles from the red, white, and blue felt or paper.
  3. Glue the stars onto the triangles.
  4. Attach the triangles to the string or ribbon, alternating colors.
  5. Hang your bunting across the porch, along a fence, or inside your home.

3. Firecracker Paper Roll Craft

Light up the night without the bang:

  • Empty toilet paper rolls
  • Red, white, and blue paint or construction paper
  • Glitter (optional)
  • Glue
  • String or pipe cleaners

Instructions:

  1. Paint the toilet paper rolls red, white, and blue. Alternatively, you can wrap them in colored construction paper.
  2. Add some sparkle with glitter if you like.
  3. Cut small strips of paper and glue them to one end of the roll to look like a fuse.
  4. Attach a piece of string or a pipe cleaner to the top to hang them up.
  5. Display your firecrackers on a mantel, in a centerpiece, or hanging from a tree.

4. Patriotic Windsocks

Windsocks are a classic holiday craft and will be fun for all ages!

  • Empty tin cans
  • Red, white, and blue paint
  • Ribbon or crepe paper streamers
  • Glue or tape
  • String

Instructions:

  1. Clean the empty tin cans and remove any labels.
  2. Paint the cans in red, white, and blue. You can create stripes, stars, or any pattern you like.
  3. Cut lengths of ribbon or streamers and attach them to the bottom edge of the cans.
  4. Make a hole in the top of the can and thread a piece of string through it for hanging.
  5. Hang your windsocks outside and watch them dance in the wind.

5. Fourth of July Mason Jar Lanterns

Add some soft light to your event!

  • Mason jars
  • Red, white, and blue tissue paper
  • Mod Podge or glue
  • Tea light candles (battery-operated are safest)

Instructions:

  1. Cut the tissue paper into small squares or other shapes.
  2. Apply a layer of Mod Podge or glue to the outside of the mason jar.
  3. Stick the tissue paper pieces onto the jar in a fun pattern.
  4. Apply another layer of Mod Podge over the tissue paper to seal it.
  5. Once dry, place a tea light candle inside the jar.
  6. Light up your lanterns and enjoy the soft, festive glow.

6. Painted Rocks

Break out the paintbrushes and paint for this oh-so-easy craft!

  • Smooth, flat rocks
  • Red, white, and blue paint
  • Paintbrushes
  • Sealant (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Clean the rocks and let them dry.
  2. Paint the rocks with patriotic designs, such as the American flag, stars, or stripes.
  3. Let the paint dry completely.
  4. Apply a coat of sealant to protect your artwork (optional).
  5. Use the painted rocks as paperweights, garden decorations, or gifts.
