Includes printables, fun step-by-step instructional lessons and quizzes. Experiments we will be completing include: 1) 2-in-1 Soap Science and Surface Tension 2) Buoyancy with a Cartesian Diver Bottle 3) Slinky Physics 4) Changing Pennies
Little scientists have the option of getting the weekly supplies and participating in the science activity or may choose to simply observe. Each week includes an official science journal, supply list and corresponding instructional video. I will provide step-by-step instructional videos for our activities in order for students to participate along at home. I often include my own children in videos to create more of an age appropriate “classroom like” environment. I want your learner to feel like they are part of a class and will be available for any questions or communications. New videos will be available each week based upon your date of enrollment. Students will practice the scientific method as they fill out their printable science journals with their hypotheses and observations. Then, they have the opportunity share it in the classroom. There will be an interactive team quiz at the end of class including all of the terms we learned throughout the course.
Science/STEM/STEAM activities include:
WEEK ONE - 2-in-1 Soap Science and Surface Tension - Adult supervision is required as we observe and record what happens while we microwave soap. Discover what happens when we place red pepper flakes in water. Lastly, watch our pepper break the surface tension with a magical chemical reaction.
WEEK TWO - Slinky Physics - What's more fun than a slinky? Learn about springs and discover Neuton's Third Law as we adjust slope and record our findings.
WEEK THREE - 2-in-1 Changing Pennies - Explore the chemical change behind pennies as we make dirty pennies shine like new. Then, record a three day experiment as we observe our pennies change over time.
WEEK FOUR - Buoyancy with a Cartesian Diver Bottle - Learn about buoyancy and density in this magical experiment. What will sink and what will float? Create fun divers that will bob up and down as we squeeze and release our bottles. Interactive team quiz reviewing our science terms for the entire course.
Adult supervision is required for these experiments. No scheduled live video chats. Discussions via classroom forum and private messages with the teacher. Great if your learner prefers independent pacing or is uncomfortable with live video chat.
