Beauty and Business Entrepreneurship

4-Week Self-Paced Course. This class is so fun as we make lip balm, calculate costs and actually sell our products.

Course Summary

This class is so fun as we make lip balm, calculate costs, build our brand and actually sell our products. The knowledge you learn can be applied to any product that you'd like to sell.

So simple yet so many endless possibilities! Learn step-by-step instructions for planning, gathering ingredients and making lip balm. I will give specific measurements, ingredients and instructions. However, once you learn how to make this brilliant creation, you will be able to make your own unique modifications. Once we have mastered making them, we will create a plan to market and sell our lip balm. Learners must use math to calculate ROI and complete an effective cost analysis.   Scavenger Hunt: Students will be on the hunt to share what they can find on the internet to make their lip balm marketable and stand out. Some ideas we will discuss include: Adding colors, scents, organic or natural ingredients, using environmentally safe packaging and varieties of container options. We will then create a S.W.O.T. analysis outlining our "Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats".   Where and how will we sell them? Some ideas we will discuss include: Wedding/baby shower gift ideas, holiday gifts, online, social media and local boutiques. Other things to include when planning, designing and marketing our lip balms is shipping rates and packaging.   Online Games: Learners will compete with each other on the leaderboard each week as we play games recalling business terms that we learned in class.

Here's a breakdown of what will happen during this 4-week course:

WEEK 1: We will learn to make two types of lip balms with beeswax or a vegan option. Review the plans to make our lip balm, gather supplies and hand craft tangible lip balms. Scavenger Hunt! - Students will search and share links for sites like Pinterest for ideas on how to make their lip balm stand out amongst the competition.
WEEK 2: Cost breakdown: What did it cost to make our lip balm? What should we sell them for? Scavenger Hunt! - Sneak into the enemy camps to find similar products and share what they are being sold for elsewhere. Kahoot game team competition for terms we've learned in class.
WEEK 3: Who, what, when, where and how can we sell our lip balm? Dive into identifying and reaching our target market. Scavenger Hunt! - Search physical stores and/or online marketplaces to see where they are currently being sold and how they are being marketed.
WEEK 4: Time to take out the competition and prepare our S.W.O.T. analysis! Play our final game/quiz to show off all the new business terms you have now mastered.

Hello parents and students,

I started Teach Me Truth Christian School because of the need for families to have a safe space for learning. After reading, "Mama Bear Apologetics", I recognized the call for a Christian education platform. Not only teaching children about the Bible, but also teaching apologetics that back up the Bible with science, logic, facts, history and intellectual reasoning. I am passionate about homesteading, homeschooling and working on becoming more independent from the world and government. Most schools in person and online censor Christianity and promote everything else - and I mean everything else! As parents, our jobs are becoming more difficult to protect our children from the evils of this world while at the same time educating them about the truth. Soon after starting the online platform, God called me to start an in-person school as well.

My Teaching Style: I encourage learning through enthusiastic engagement. I believe children learn best through curiosity or play. Teaching online has been my passion for six years. I was an online English teacher with VIPKID for over three years and an Outschool teacher since 2020. VIPKID taught me how to engage with students in a virtual setting. They taught me how to use props, singing and demonstrations to increase learning. I encourage student output and participation during class.

About Me: I have a bachelor's degree in marketing and science. I am an entrepreneur and business owner. I have also been in the beauty industry for over 15 years. I am a homeschooling mom of five. I am constantly seeking creative ways for my children and students to learn new things.

My Homeschooling Style: As a homeschooling mom of 4, my favorite part of teaching is sort of "tricking" them into learning. What I mean by this is, we often play learning games and sing songs. In addition to this, my children have learning games on their devices and we listen to learning songs in the car. Some of our favorite online resources include: Easy Peasy Homeschool, Education.com and Miacademy and Flock School. Some of our favorite learning games are: ABC and sight word bingo, memory match, shout-and-grab, ABC caterpillar board game, dinosaur nest game, Uno, chess, checkers, matching, fill in the blank phonics sounds and more. We love arts and craft time as well as create weekly science projects. My kiddos enjoy both live and self-paced online classes. Our kids participate in chores, taking care of our chickens, ducks, dog and cat. We love projects and currently are building a chicken coop. Lastly, our book work is a small part of learning each day.
