3 Branches of Government

12-lesson overview of the 3 branches of government. Learn about government, politics, and civics. (Ages 9-14)

Course Summary

This class is an overview of the three branches of the federal government: Legislative (Congress: House and Senate), Judicial (Supreme Court), and Executive (President). I like my classes to be interactive. I will have videos of me using a PowerPoint and lecture. There will be a self-paced Nearpod lesson and a worksheet to follow along with the lecture. In the end, we will have a quiz to test and reinforce what they learned in class. Later in the week, there will be optional assignments if you want even more to supplement your homeschooling. We will do a project where you learn and tell the class about your Congressman, and two Senators. Tell me about the candidates who are running for Congress. If you have Senators running for reelection, tell us about that too. Post to the classroom page and the rest of the class can comment and discuss your work. My experience on this subject is that I worked for a political TV station for ten years including two election years.

Week One: Overview of all three branches, review, and how each branch checks each other.
Week Two: Legislative Branch: Congress: House of Representatives and Senate
Week Three: Executive Branch: Presidency and Supporting jobs
Week Four: Judicial Branch: Supreme Court
*Note: This is a self-paced class so there are no live meetings.
