Join me in a fun-filled learning experience where we explore American coins through shopping and songs. Each week, we will delve into a different coin, learning about its value and various ways to pay. Let's enhance our counting skills by practicing counting in 5's, 10's, and 25's. We will engage in interactive sessions with catchy songs to aid in retention and enjoyment. Through the use of large magnetic and real money props, we will handle and identify coins, discussing their colors, shapes, and unique features. In addition to my instructional videos, I will share some of my top picks from YouTube to reinforce learning about money and skip counting. I will also provide visuals and handouts illustrating the coin combinations needed to make a dollar. For extra practice, I have included entertaining worksheets featuring engaging themes such as Mermaids, Mosasauruses, Monsters, Space, Medical, and more. Select your preferred workbook to enhance your money-related activities.
Lesson One will focus on pennies and dimes, allowing us to practice counting by ones and tens.
Lesson Two will be dedicated to nickels, honing our counting skills in fives.
In Lesson Three, we will shift to quarters, mastering the art of counting by 25's.
Lesson Four will challenge us to determine the various coin combinations that add up to one dollar, showcasing the versatility of payment methods. For instance, we can pay with 30 pennies, 6 nickels, or 3 dimes. As we progress, we will tackle slightly more complex scenarios like determining the coins needed for a purchase of seventeen cents.
Incorporating student interactions, I will host live sessions where participants select a number from my whiteboard to reveal a surprise cake. To win the cake, they must correctly calculate the amount required for purchase. For example, "This delectable cake costs 30 cents, how many dimes do you need?" Students can respond by messaging me or sharing a video of their solution.
