Reading Comprehension Unit 1b Exploring Story Structure (Compare and Contrast) (Self-Paced)

Students ages 5-12 will explore fiction’s fundamental elements by building an understanding of story structure through identifying & compare/contrast.

Course Summary

Overview:
In this unit, students will explore the fundamental elements of fiction through engaging and interactive lessons. They will build a strong schema for understanding story structure by identifying, comparing, and contrasting key literary elements across different texts. This unit aims to enhance students’ comprehension and analytical skills, fostering a deeper appreciation for storytelling.  

Learning Objectives:
-I can identify the character, setting, problem, events, and solution in a story.
-I can talk, write, or draw about the elements of a story.
-I can compare two stories with similar elements.  

By the end of this unit, students will have a solid understanding of story structure and the ability to compare and contrast different literary works, preparing them for more advanced literary analysis.  

Informal Assessment will be included with each lesson. It will consist of students completing the given activity sheets and then sending me a picture of their completed work if feedback is desired within the 3 weeks of the course. I am also available through the classroom or messaging should you and/or your student need anything!
